What Is the Digestive System In Simple Words?

In Simple words, the digestive system is the process of extracting essential nutrients from food in a specific way.  It is one of the most important parts of digesting food. It is the food breakdown into smaller and smaller components and absorbed and assimilated into the body. This system is also known as the gastrointestinal system. For a body digestive system is the most important and necessary process.

Human Digestive System Process

The human body digestion process is a crucial stage, which provides the essential fuel to the body. In the human body, a group of organs working together to convert food into energy for the body. To absorbed the food first to the end, food has to go through many stages. Below I will try to explain in a few words.

Step 1: As soon as the food is taken in the mouth, a kind of saliva is excreted into the mouth to breakdown the food into chemicals called enzymes.

Step 2: After breaking down the food in the mouth from saliva and chewing, the food moving to the esophagus. The esophagus is a pipe that is the connector between the mouth to the stomach. Here, another process occurs called peristalsis, which is muscle tightening and relaxation in the intestine to transport food and waste products more smoothly.

Step 3: From the esophagus, the food is stored in the stomach and breakdown through acid and powerful enzymes. After breaking down, the food moves into the small intestine.

Step 4: The food breaks more in the small intestine by the released enzyme and bile from the pancreas and liver. Most of the nutrition of the food is absorbed in this stage. The rest of the food that is not absorbed in the small intestine moves to the large intestine.

Step 5: The large intestine is also known as the colon. Generally, it is a 5-7 foot long muscular tube. The colon connects the small intestine to the rectum. The waste material process in the large intestine. The waste material takes about 36 hours to go to the anus, which is the exit point.
